Ofpra may decide to close a case in a number of situations determined by law. This decision to close a file does not become final until the expiration of a period of 9 months from the closing date.
The closure procedure applies if you withdraw your asylum application.
Closure is also an option offered to the Office, which thus retains freedom of assessment in view of individual situations and protection needs, if you are in any of the following cases:
- you have submitted your asylum application beyond the prescribed time limits;
- you refuse to cooperate;
- you did not attend the summons and did not provide any supporting documents;
- you did not provide a valid mailing address ;
- you have abandoned, without legitimate reason, the place where you were accommodated proposed by OFII in application of article L. 552-8.
You can request the reopening of your file from the prefecture within 9 months of the closure decision. The prefecture will proceed with a new registration and a new asylum application certificate will be issued to you, along with a specific form.
You will then have 8 days to send this request form to reopen your asylum application to Ofpra. Ofpra will resume processing your asylum application from the stage at which it was interrupted.
It is no longer possible to request the reopening of your asylum application after the deadline. Your request will be considered a request for reconsideration.
